Metal Substrate

Shenzhen Blaze metal substrates are manufactured by pressing and curling metal foil into a honeycomb structure, which is then placed inside a metal shell and brazed. These substrates are primarily used for exhaust gas treatment in various applications, including automobiles, motors, general machinery, and heavy industry.

Compared to ceramic substrates, Shenzhen Blaze metal substrates offer significant advantages such as extended lifespan, superior heat resistance, and vibration resistance. Furthermore, their low thermal mass and high thermal conductivity enable quicker catalyst heating during cold starts in vehicles, thereby enhancing the efficiency of exhaust gas purification and contributing to lower carbon emissions and cleaner air.

Clean Technology, Engineered for Performance

Shenzhen Blaze delivers advanced metal substrate solutions for automotive exhaust systems, industrial emissions control, and new energy technologies. Manufactured using precision laser welding on Fe-Cr-Al and stainless steel alloys, our products are engineered for high-temperature resistance, rapid catalyst activation, and low pressure drop. Backed by NADCAP-certified welding processes and the IATF 16949 quality management system, Blaze substrates ensure consistent quality and high reliability across all applications.

Core Product Features

Structure: Shenzhen Blaze metal substrates are made from Fe-Cr-Al or stainless steel (such as 409 or 436L), processed into honeycomb or porous structures. The specific surface area reaches up to 200–500 m²/m³ through optimized geometry. The thermal expansion coefficient is closely matched with catalyst coatings, typically in the range of 8–12×10⁻⁶/K.

Performance: These substrates withstand long-term operating temperatures of 600–950°C and can handle transient peaks up to 1200°C. Their low thermal mass—30–40% less than ceramic substrates—helps shorten catalyst activation time during cold starts. Axial crush strength exceeds 10 MPa (tested per ISO 13356), and with over 85% porosity, they reduce back pressure by 15–20% compared to ceramic substrates of similar cell density.

Manufacturing & Coating Capabilities

Material Preparation
Each substrate is coated with a γ-Al₂O₃ washcoat offering a surface area of 150–200 m²/g. Precious metal loading (Pt, Pd, Rh) is controlled with ±0.5wt% precision.

Honeycomb Forming
Substrates are formed using NADCAP-certified laser welding, with weld strength exceeding 90% of the base material. Cell density can be customized from 100 to 600 CPSI to suit specific application needs.

Coating Technology
Proprietary MAT-AL20 alloy coatings are applied. Pre-oxidation treatment forms a durable α-Al₂O₃ protective layer with a thickness of 5–8 μm, enhancing thermal stability and adhesion.

Quality Assurance

Shenzhen Blaze adheres to IATF 16949 standards and complies with GB/T 34432-2017 for motor vehicle exhaust substrates. Key quality control metrics include:

  • Channel integrity: Verified using X-ray CT scanning, with defect rates below 0.1%.

  • Coating adhesion: Tested using ultrasonic vibration methods, with weight loss under 1%.

  • Thermal shock resistance: 100 cycles between 900°C and room temperature, with no cracking or delamination.

Applications

Automotive Emissions Control
Used in Euro VI SCR/DPF systems and compact catalytic converters for hybrid vehicles.

Industrial Exhaust Treatment
Ideal for VOC catalytic oxidation in chemical plants and low-NOx combustion systems for gas turbines.

Clean Energy
Serves as base material for gas diffusion layers in fuel cells and electrode supports in hydrogen production via water electrolysis.
